Iranian shooter Amir-Siavosh Zolfaqarian made his way to the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) after he finished fifth in the 10m rifle/pistol section of the 10th Asian Airgun Championship underway in Wako, Japan.

Zolfaqarian represented Iran in the junior category of the Japanese event where he scooped 184.2 points to win his ticket to Argentinean event, Mehr News Agency reported.

Iran’s 10m air rifle women junior team, comprising Fatemeh Karamzadeh, Seyedeh Roya Sobhkhiz and Maryam Shafeipur, landed behind the Chinese to win bronze with a total of 1243 points. China came first with 1246.6 points while India collected 1238.1 points to stand third in the same category.

Armita Sadeqian, competing in the women junior division, also found her way to the final round to keep alive hopes of receiving quotas for the 2018 Youth Olympics.

A total of 407 shooters from 27 Asian countries are competing at the Asian Airgun Championship, December 6-12.
