Iranian Taekwondo practitioner of -58kg division Farzan Ashourzadeh finished second at World Taekwondo Federation Grand Prix Final in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, December 2-3.
Ashourzadeh defeated his British rival in the first round with total dominant result of 28-12. In quarterfinals he beat Australian opponent 7-6 to step into semifinals, Varzesh3.com reported.
The Iranian cleared the path to the final game by beating Russian Mikhail Artamonov in the semis to face the South Korean taekwondoka in the finals. However, he could not overcome the Korean rival.
Another member of Iran’s squad in the -58kg Armin Hadipour left the tournament without any medal after losing to an Australian rival.
A total of 122 players attended the Grand Prix Final with 16 players in the -58kg division. Four Iranians including Ashourzadeh and Hadipour attended.
Abidjan will also host the World Taekwondo Team Championships on December 5-6.
