Iran’s Kurash squad finished with two medals at the 11th World Kurash Senior Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, November 30-December 4.
Kurash is an old Turkic term for wrestling and specifically refers to a number of folk wrestling styles practiced in Central Asia.
According to Varzesh3.com, Qanbar-Ali Qanbari of -60kg division beat rivals from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to reach the finals.
However, in the final game he lost to another Uzbek and took consolation in a silver medal.
In the -66 kg category, Behzad Vojdani defeated his Uzbek and South Korean rivals but lost to a Kazakh. The color bronze was his fortune.
Three other members from Iran’s squad were less fortunate and left the tournament empty handed.
