Jordan Burroughs, American world and Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling, has issued a message in Persian on his Instagram page sympathizing with the earthquake-stricken people in Kermanshah Province.

The Nov. 12 natural disaster killed at least 436 people, injured 9,400 and left thousands of homeless and in urgent need of support.

Burroughs visited Iran in February to take part in the Freestyle Wrestling World Cup which was hosted by the western Iranian city of Kermanshah, Mehr News Agency reported.

In his message, Burroughs conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the people of Kermanshah and the Iranian nation. “I share your sorrows. I want you to know that we are all thinking about you and sympathize with you because of the earthquake.”

He described Kermanshah as a memorable city. “I was so delighted to be present there and meet the warm-blooded and hospitable people who also adore wrestling.”

“My family and I were saddened to hear about the bitter incident. We pray for you and wish the situation will improve sooner and the beautiful Kermanshah will be rebuilt. I look forward to traveling to Iran in the future. My family and I have the best wishes for you,” the champion’s message concluded.
