Even though the fortunes of Real Madrid are in a downward spiral at the present moment, the individual awards simply do not stop for Cristiano Ronaldo who has been awarded the world’s top goalscorer prize for 2016.
The award, granted by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), recognizes the Portuguese forward’s incredible goal record over the course of the calendar year.
His goals with both Los Blancos and his national team have counted towards the overall tally and the trophy was delivered to him on Friday morning, Marca reported.
This latest triumph is actually Ronaldo’s third time winning this particular award, and he now stands on his own as the individual who has been recognized the most by the IFFHS.
The IFFHS is an organization chronicling the history and records of association football. Founded on 27 March 1984 in Leipzig by Dr. Alfredo Pöge with the blessings of general secretary of the FIFA at the time, Dr. Helmut Käser, The IFFHS was based in Abu Dhabi for some time but, in 2010, relocated to Bonn, Germany.
In the top three were Lionel Messi and Edinson Cavani, both of whom enjoyed productive years in 2016.
