One goal decided the result of the heart pounding soccer game between Esteghlal and Persepolis in Tehran derby at the fully-packed Azadi Stadium on Thursday.
Persepolis striker Ali Alipour was brought down in penalty area in 22nd minute by Rouzbeh Cheshmi and converted his penalty, Tasnim News Agency reported.
Esteghlal was the dominant team in the second half but failed to find the back of its rival’s net.
The 85th derby marked the first time the two teams faced each other both headed by foreign coaches.
Persepolis has been coached for two years by the Croatian manager Branko Ivankovic, while Esteghlal has recently hired the German Winfried Schäfer as head coach.
