Iran U-17 soccer team has surprised everyone at the U-17 World Cup underway in India and is ready for all eventualities.
A well-organized and technically-gifted team, it is now being seen at the same level as Brazil, Spain and England. According to an article published in Firstpost.com, the same team had finished runners up at the U-16 AFC Championships last year.
Much praise has been heaped on Iran’s creative midfielders and forwards. However, the team has gained much also due to its solid defense.
The national team scored 10 goals in three games in group matches (three goals against Guinea, four to crush Germany and three in the battle with Costa Rica) and received only one goal (from Guinea).
They have topped Group C without breaking a sweat and will face the third-placed team from Group F in the Round of 16. Mexico is the most likely contender at the moment.
However, Iran does not seem too worried about which team it would face in the knockout phase as the boys are on track and doing quite well.
