Iran’s national football team head coach Carlos Queiroz is among the candidates for the World’s Best National Coach award presented by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).
Starting on November 15, the IFFHS will present awards to best male and female figures in the realm of football, Mehr News Agency reported.
The Portuguese Queiroz, 64, is the longest serving manager in the history of Iran’s national football team after serving for over six years from his appointment in 2011.
He is the only manager in the country’s history who has led the national team to two consecutive World Cups in 2014 and 2018.
The popular Queiroz and his boys had a superior performance against their rivals and managed to avoid defeat and remain unbeaten in the second round of World Cup qualifying games earlier this year. Iran became the third team to qualify for the World Cup after host Russia and Brazil.
Team Melli has been the highest-ranked team in Asia since December 2014 and is currently the 24th team in the world according to the latest FIFA World Rankings.
Another nominee for the World’s Best National Coach is Hugo Broos, a Belgian football manager who currently manages Cameroon. He led the team to victory in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
Also on the list is Joachim Löw, German football coach who is currently manager of the German national team and led the country to victory at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia.
Other candidates are Roberto Martinez (Belgium), Adenor Leonardo Bacchi better known as Tite (Brazil), Vahid Halilhodžić (Japan) and Julen Lopetegui (Spain).
The IFFHS World Best National Coach is an annual award presented since 1996. The winners are decided by vote count of 81 experts from across the world.
