Iran’s darts squad collected two gold and one bronze medal to finish second overall at the 2017 World Darts Federation (WDF) World Cup in Japan.

The World Cup was held October 3-7 in the Japanese city of Kobe where Iranians offered awe-inspiring performances to bag three medals, Mehr News Agency reported.

In a stunning final showdown in the women’s singles, Deniz Hashtbaran quelled her Irish opponent 6-4 and stood on top of the podium.

The female Iranian dart player set a historic record as she clinched the title following seven consecutive wins over rivals from Sweden, Germany, Canada, Ireland, Russia, the Netherlands and Ireland and remained undefeated through the sporting event.

Also on Friday, the Iranian pair of Deniz Hashtbaran and Mahshad Avazzadeh thrashed Lerena Rietbergen and Layla Brussels from the Netherlands 6-5 in the finals of the girls’ section securing Iran’s first-ever gold medal at the international event.

Iran’s only bronze medal was bagged by Amir-Ali Mirzaei who came third in the men’s singles category.

Overall, the Iranian darters became the vice-champion in 2017 WDF World Cup behind the Dutch.

The WDF World Cup is a major darts tournament that is held biennially since 1977.
