Iran’s freestyle wrestlers left Tehran Wednesday for Yakutsk, Russia, to take part in the 10th Dmitry Korkin Cup.
The International freestyle wrestling grand prix tournament in memory of the Russian coach, Dmitry Korkin, is slated for September 30-October 1, Mehr News Agency reported.
Accordingly, the Wrestling Federation of Iran has sent its best and medal-hopeful freestylers to the Eurasian country.
Iran’s squad includes Mehran Nasiri (61 kg), Morteza Ghiasi and Younes Emami (65 kg), Esmaeil Mahmoudi and Kamran Ghasempour (86 kg) as well as Amirreza Amiri (125kg).
Held annually in the Republic of Sakha, the event seeks to promote freestyle wrestling, improve the ability and skills of freestyle wrestlers and strengthen regional and international relations.
The tournament will be held under United World Wrestling freestyle rules in 57, 61, 65, 70, 74, 86, 97 and 125 weight categories.
Winners will receive medals, diploma and cash prizes with the top athlete receiving $2,000. Second and third-place winners will be awarded with $1,500 and $1,000 respectively.
