Iran Defends Asian Volleyball Crown

Iran succeeded in defending its crown at the 21st Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship after a thrilling 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 31-29) final clash with hosts Japan at the Chiba Port Arena on Sunday.

Iran now hold a total of four championship trophies in the history of the competition. It also retained the top slot in the 2011 and 2013 contests.

Iran and Japan, the 9-time champion in the past, met in the finals twice. Japan won in 2009 and 2015. This Japanese, which bring world famous stars from the Olympics, were led by Ran Takahashi.

However, he was unable to win the crown for his side this time around losing all the three sets that resulted in Iran winning the title for the 4th time on par with South Korea.

Iran and Japan will represent Asia at the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship in Russia.
