15-Year Tax Holiday for Iranian Knowledge-Based Firms

The Iranian National Tax Administration is offering 2,333 knowledge-based companies tax exemption for 15 years, starting from the date of establishment.

The decision has been made based on a November 2010 law that stipulates knowledge-based firms are to be provided with tax relief and other government incentives.

A list of the 2,333 firms was compiled by the Vice Presidential Office for Science and Technology and sent to INTA this week, local news website Shanbe Press reported.

The Rouhani administration is a strong advocate of knowledge-based firms and in the past few years has provided incentives to promote underpin such businesses.  These include customs exemptions, starting the Innovation and Prosperity Fund to financially support the companies and provide cheap loans.

According to Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari, there are over 3,600 knowledge-based firms in Iran that collectively showed a financial turnover of 600 trillion rials ($4.2 billion) in the last fiscal ending in March.
