Ahead of World Information Society Day, major Iranian communications companies unveiled their latest services and future programs during separate conferences.
Iran’s ICT Minister Mohammad Javad Azari-Jahromi participated in the conferences giving speeches and outlining state programs for expansion of the information and communications sector, the ministry’s website reported.
World Information Society Day celebrated on May 17, was proclaimed by a United Nations General Assembly resolution, following the 2005 World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis.
The day had previously been known as “World Telecommunication Day” to commemorate the founding of the International Telecommunication Union on May 17, 1865.
