Iran is the first country to join the Electronic TIR Convention—the Convention on International Transport of Goods Under Cover of TIR Carnets, a multilateral treaty concluded at Geneva in 1975 to simplify and harmonize the administrative formalities of international road transport. Masoud Karbasian, the head of Iran Customs Administration, further said this would eliminate the paper transit manuals, adding that the data on TIR lorry trucks will be given to the customs office by the International Road and Transport Union before they cross into Iran and the office will check the data online, IFP reports. Karbasian also said Iran is cooperating with the World Customs Organization to stop the inflow of counterfeit and smuggled items.
