Two models of the Acer Aspire Switch 10 were introduced by the Taiwanese electronics giant during a press event held in New York recently. The device features a detachable keyboard dock that allows it to be used as a tablet or a laptop.

The entry level model has a price tag starting at $279 while the high-resolution model has a price tag starting at $399. The detachable keyboard dock, which comes together with the tablet, is considered by some industry watchers as its most notable feature.

The tablet can be set in numerous positions when it is attached to the dock due to its 360-degree hinge. Users can position the device in tent-mode while working on the touch screen interface of the device.

The design of the Switch 10 is similar to the hybrid designs used by other PC manufacturers specifically the Yoga of Lenovo. The screen of the Yoga can be rotated 360 degrees while maintaining its connection to its keyboard base.

The main difference of the Acer Aspire Switch 10 is the screen can be detached from the keyboard dock.

While the entry-level model of the tablet is bulkier compared to the tablets of its rivals, it was easy to grip. It is also offered in six color options. It features the Atom Z3735F processor of Intel and performs well enough while using the Windows 8.1 interface. Even though the Acer Aspire Switch 10 features an IPS display, the glossy surface results to glare at certain angles. The battery life of the tablet and dock is around twelve hours.

The latest tablet offering of Acer also features a 2MP camera in front and rear. It comes with a RAM of up to 2GB, 64GB storage space, microSD memory card slot, microUSB slot and mini-HDMI port.

The small laptops will be available in the Iranian market in the coming months. Acer has had representative offices in Iran for over a decade and it is likely to be priced around $400 with local warranty.
