Domestic Vacuum Arc Melting Furnace Has Export Potential

A domestic knowledge-based company has developed a vacuum arc melting furnace that costs one-fifth of the foreign counterpart

A domestic knowledge-based company has developed a vacuum arc melting furnace with export potential, which accelerates the purification of alloys.

“Domestic furnaces are designed for melting capacities from 5-400 kg and are equipped with a pressure relief valve,” Siamak Bastami, a member of the board of directors of Fanavaran Ayandeh Pooya Pars Company, was quoted as saying.

The vacuum arc melting furnace can control the electrode automatically and manually, which enables industries to use this feature depending on their need, the news portal of the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology reported.

The ability to melt under a special gas atmosphere, a peripheral pressure gauge, being equipped with rotary and diffusion pumps, designing special interlocks to maintain the safety of the device and the user, melt flow control, arc direction control and cooling control are some of the features of this domestic furnace.

The domestic arc melting furnace has the ability to remove oxygen in melting stages, produce controlled expansion alloys, eliminate dissolved gases in melted steel and refine melted steel.

The furnace is used in the production of turbine blade alloys, stainless steel and strong alloys.

The vacuum arc process was used for liquefying super alloys, but currently this method is used to produce high-quality alloys with a uniform structure.

Arc melting creates a directional freezing structure as it has a hydrothermal mold and the arc factor causes the thermal failure of the oxide and nitride inclusions in the sample and spreads them evenly.

Bastami explained that currently, the export barriers pose the biggest obstacle to knowledge-based companies.

“The Iran-made furnace has export potential because it costs one-fifth of the foreign counterpart and foreign customers have shown interest in buying this product. But obstacles to export and after-sales services abroad make this issue difficult,” he added.

Iranian smelting furnaces have been able to meet domestic demand and this knowledge-based company has created about 25 jobs in its production line.

    Multitasking Thermal Fogging Machine

A knowledge-based company has developed an agricultural spraying device that can also be employed for environmental disinfection through thermal fogging for the first time in Iran.

The decision to circumvent the Covid-19 pandemic required the import of a large number of such machines, but domestic models were modified after research to handle medical disinfection, alongside their agricultural functions.

“Thermal fogging machine disperses the spray material in the form of fog with dimensions of 5-50 microns,” Abazar Vahdat, the CEO of knowledge-based Sepid Pajuhan Pars Company, said.

The machine is designed in two models that can be attached to the back of a van or a car.

The best way to repel greenhouse pests and various plant diseases is the fogging method and any type of water-soluble pesticide can be used in such machines. The new model has reduced the spraying time compared with traditional methods.

In addition to disinfection, the thermal machine has other features such as generating humidity in a greenhouse, preventing frost and blocking the invasion of fungi, insects and small animals in silos and warehouses.

Every year, some crops suffer from frost damage. The methods used in Iran to deal with this problem are expensive and inefficient, but this device creates a layer of fog that shields the plants from frost damage.

Some small pests such as whiteflies or thrips were not destroyed by the previous spraying method and this caused problems for greenhouse owners. This device has solved this problem with its special mode of spraying and reduced pesticide consumption in the agricultural sector by 80%. A mist produced by the machine can also be used to prevent infectious diseases such as leishmaniasis.

This product significantly reduces the cost of equipment and manpower, while reducing 99% of water consumption required for spraying. It carries a 10-year warranty on parts and services, as well as a one-year warranty on engine and main parts.

Heat sprayers have been exported to Armenia and Azerbaijan, but as only Iran and Turkey possess the knowhow to produce this machine in the region, it has high export potentials.
