Iranian knowledge-based companies have manufactured three products that are cheaper and more efficient than foreign counterparts, in addition to offering after-sale services.
These products have been reviewed as follows:
Elimination of Pests Using Pheromones
An Iranian knowledge-based company was able to fight garden pests and improve the quality of agricultural products by producing insect pheromones.
Akbar Dadras, CEO of Tabiat Nikan Knowledge-Based Company, said the company has acquired the know-how to produce pheromones that attract pests.
“These knowledge-based products are a kind of a natural way to fight garden pests. Currently, nine products are helping improve the quality of agricultural products,” he added.
Pheromones are substances secreted by female insects that attract males, which is used to predict the timing of spraying pesticides, the news portal of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology’s website reported.
The pheromones produced in this company attract the butterfly of peach-eating worm, grape-eating worm and the apple worm.
Also, Tortrix viridian pheromone, plum worm butterfly pheromone, Chilo suppressalis pheromone, Leopard moth pheromone, cotton bollworm butterfly pheromone and tomato’s citrus leaf miner attracting pheromone are other products, he added.
These pheromones are used for determining the time of chemical pest control after population peak and determining the distribution of insects in an area, and for conducting phonetic studies.
More Competitive and Efficient
For instance, tomato’s citrus leaf miner pheromone is commonly used in greenhouses and farms at the rate of one to two traps per hectare; inside each delta-shaped trap is a glue and a pheromone capsule.
It takes 30-45 days for the pheromone to attract the insect. By counting the number of trapped insects, you can find the best time to spray pesticides.
With this technique, farmers can use the least number of sprays and by increasing the traps, they act as a mass hunter and help avoid excessive spraying, which help grow healthier products.
Pesticides are one of the tools of modern agricultural technology, which have attracted the attention of environmentalists and researchers.
The indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides in farms and orchards is one of the main causes of some diseases in humans.
Similar foreign counterparts are more expensive and have lower absorption capacity than the domestic products that help prevent the outflow of foreign currency.
The have also been exported to Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey to a limited extent.
Lead-Free Protection for Medical Staff
With the development of technology for producing non-lead clothing that safeguards against X-rays, while maintaining the health of people, one of the medical requirements has been indigenized.
This product is a kind of X-ray absorbing rubber that is a suitable alternative to lead coats.
Shiva Shahnashenas, CEO of Ideh Sazan-e Fanavari Proshot Company, said "this product has similar foreign counterparts, but there are no non-lead coats in Iran".
These clothes are lighter than lead coats and non-toxic. It is also very flexible and not fragile, unlike lead-coats.
This product is of equal or higher quality compared to foreign counterparts, and has a lower production cost and end price.
X-Ray Absorbing Curtains at Airports
X-absorbent rubber in the form of absorbent clothing can be used in all radiology, radiography and nuclear medicine centers.
This rubber can also be used as X-ray absorbing curtains at airports. Due to its high durability and lighter weight, it can be installed in the walls.
Its rubber layer has a high absorption power and its lack of brittleness in folded parts is one of the advantages of this layer.
The product has acquired the ISO 13485 standards from England, CE license, national standards and medical equipment standard reference laboratory.
Electrical Heart Activity Recorder
Holter heart monitor is a device that records the electrical activity of the heart continuously and full time.
Mohsen Avesta, CEO of Kavoshgaran Teb Kharazmi Medical Engineering Company, said, "A Holter is a device that records the electrical activity of the heart for at least 24 hours."
When symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, low blood pressure, prolonged fatigue and palpitations appear in a patient without a definitive diagnosis, a resting signal is obtained by a Holter or EC, and the patient continues to be controlled.
Some abnormal heart rhythms may occur intermittently, or only in certain conditions, such as stress. Arrhythmias are difficult to be diagnosed through an ECG, as they last for only a few minutes.
A cardiologist, therefore, prescribes a Holter monitor to provide a better opportunity to record heart activity, or abnormal rhythms that may be causing symptoms.
Easy Connection
The Holter device is easily connected to the patient's body by chest electrodes and continuously records the heart's electrical signals in normal living conditions on its memory card to help the doctor have a more complete diagnosis of arrhythmias.
Holter is prescribed to help record this information for a longer time than what is done in therapeutic settings, which is usually less than a minute and has a high diagnostic value.
The device will be connected to the person for 24-48 hours and is portable.
This device measures the heart rate and records them. In this method, the recorder, which has a size of a USB drive and weighs 15 grams, is connected to a person's chest using three wires.
Avesta noted that the Holter produced in the country is 50% cheaper than foreign counterparts and also offers after-sales services, which are not available for foreign counterparts.
