The international Hamoun Wetland will host the 2015 celebrations of the World Wetlands Day on February 2, the Department of Environment deputy Ahmad Ali Kikha said.
This year’s function has adopted the theme ‘Wetlands for Our Future – Join us!,’ Mehr News Agency quoted him as saying. The ceremony seeks to highlight the national and international sensitivities to the current situation of the national and regional wetlands, he said.
Masoumeh Ebtekar, DoE head and Gary Lewis, UN Resident Coordinator will attend the function.
Along with the main event in Hamoun, other wetlands including Urumia, Shadgan, Parishan, Miqan in Arak, Gandoman, and Qouri Gul (Turkish for ‘dry lake’), will host similar symbolic ceremonies on the occasion.
