An under-construction subway line in Alborz Province, west of Tehran, will reach the province's western flank at Hashtgerd New Town in a few months, a deputy roads minister said.
During a visit to Hashtgerd, Habibollah Taherkhani added that the construction of stations and tunnels connecting Karaj—the capital of Alborz Province—to Hashtgerd is almost complete. Services will become operational in the summer.
"The Hashtgerd station will become operational as soon as power and signaling systems are connected and fences and other equipments are installed," YJC quoted Taherkhani as saying.
Hashtgerd is located 25 kilometers west of Golshahr Station in Karaj, the last station of Tehran Metro’s Line 5.
The construction of Hashtgerd station was started in July 2018 by Hashtgerd New Town Construction Company. Last year, the company estimated that the project was short of 700 billion rials ($4.4 million).
Taherkhani noted that 77% of the project have been completed and final preparations will take a few months, promising Hashtgerd residents that they will be able to commute via metro in the coming summer.
Metro Line 5 was partly launched in 1998, stretching from Karaj to Sadeqieh in Tehran. Since then, the line was gradually extended to Golshahr. Line 5 is currently 41 kilometers long with 11 stations.
Sadeqieh Station is a junction of Line 5 and Tehran Metro’s Line 2.
