Following talks between Tehran Municipality and Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, special sightseeing bus tours will be held on Fridays throughout the year.
Mehdi Seif, head of TM's tourism office said the tours will be held to enable the people to take short trips around the capital and visit historical sites and key tourist spots, Asr-e Khodro reported.
Details like timing of the tours, operating hours and ticket prices were not known.
The idea was formed after the two sides successfully operated sightseeing bus tours in the capital during Norouz (Iranian New Year) holiday season from March 21-April 2.
During the two-week holidays, buses operated tours on two routes. One took tourists around the city's attractions in districts 1 and 3 (north and central-northern regions) and the other went to historical and iconic spots in District 12 in the central-eastern parts.
The tours were undertaken with buses owned by a Tehran-based private tourist company "Gap Tours".
The company purchased six buses from a Chinese manufacturer in 2014 and used them to operate sightseeing tours.
Seif said, "The initiative produced positive feedback, as over 5,000 people took the bus tours during the holidays." Resuming the tours will certainly contribute to boosting tourism and create jobs in the province of 12 million people.
