‘Paykan taxis will be banned in Tehran streets from next year (starting March 21). Traffic& Transportation Deputy at Tehran Municipality(TM) Jaffar Tashakkori said there are now 6,900 Paykans being used as taxis which are contributing to air pollution. He added that the TM will provide the taxi drivers with necessary funds to replace their Paykans. He also announced plans to phase out other old vehicles such as trucks and semi-trucks and pick-ups within a year, ISNA reported.
