Tehran subway network will expand to the city of Parand in Robat Karim county, southwest of the capital.
In 2016, in a bid to provide subway access to the southwestern areas of the province, a junction was established from Shahed Station in Line 1 of Tehran Metro, crossing Shahr-e Aftab International Exhibition Center to Imam Khomeini International Airport.
Head of Parand New Town Development Organization (PNTDO), Mohsen Vatankhah says the junction is now being expanded to Parand. “We hope Parand Station will be operational by March.”
The project is being jointly conducted by the PNTDO and Tehran Municipality.
Line 1 of Tehran Metro became operational in 2001 and links Tajrish in north Tehran to Kahrizak in the south, stretching over 40 kilometers with 31 stations.
The city’s subway system has seven main lines (1 to 7, of which lines 3, 6 and 7 are yet to be completed) with 116 stations.
Subway commute in Tehran has increased significantly in recent years and four million people use the trains every day. TM expects the number to climb after the new lines become operational.
