Minister of Education Ali Asghar Fani announced plans for developing culturally suitable social media “to effectively contain the harmful content of outside social networks and mobile messaging services.” He said merely banning social networks does not address the issue since youngsters make wide use of the networks. Fani, quoted by ISNA, added that the ministry is studying ways to create a social media that “will link schoolchildren together in a healthy and controlled environment.”
