There were 1.2 million child workers in the country last year, 5,000 of whom received protection from the State Welfare Organization (SWO). The head of the SWO Office of Trauma & Care Valiollah Nasr quoted by ISNA, said while the majority of the children were foreign nationals (mostly Afghans), the SWO made no distinction between Iranian and foreign children in providing care and support. He added that the SWO has no extradition policies for foreign kids since Iran is a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
