While the Chairman of the Health Committee of Tehran City Council Rahmatollah Hafezi has warned about the “high level of lead” present in poultry, the governor of Tehran Province has issued a denial saying “no official report has indicated the non-standard presence of lead in chicken meat.” Hafezi had maintained that since some chicken feed is prepared in containers coated with lead, the poultry had become contaminated by lead – in some cases by 47% exceeding the standard level, ISNA reported. Hafezi, however, said for the exact level of contamination, the annual report released at the end of the year (March 20) should be awaited.
