During the first nine months of the current year (started March 21, 2014) 615 Iranian women got married to men of foreign nationalities mostly Afghans, a 26% increase compared with the same period in the previous year. An official at the Organization for Civil Registration said most of the marriages took place in Tehran, Khuzestan and Qom provinces. Ali Akbar Mahzoun quoted by ISNA said there was also a 23% rise in the number of marriages between Iranian men and foreign women with 569 such marriages during the first half of the current year.
