Chemotherapy Costs to ReduceChemotherapy Costs to Reduce

Chemotherapy medication costs will be reduced to half in state-run hospitals from October and all the required medication will be provided in the hospitals itself to prevent their misuse, said Rasoul Dinarvand, head of Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

At present the costs of common chemotherapy drugs is met 90% by the state and 10% by the patient. But from October the patients’ share of the cost will be reduced to 5%, Salamat news reported.

Meanwhile, the plan will not support expensive chemotherapy medication, as such drugs can reduce patients’ pain, but they are not more effective than common medication in terms of treatment, and hence not justifiable, he said.
