Nearly 13 % of Iranians don’t visit the dentists during their lifetime. The rest are also afraid of being contaminated by infectious diseases such as HIV, hepatitis, etc, Mehr News Agency quoted Dr. Fariborz Bayat, a faculty member of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences as saying. Allaying concerns, he said getting infection at the dentist’s office is rare since dentists maintain high standards in Iran; dental equipment is sterilized with a device called autoclave which is installed in every dental doctor’s clinic. In other words the risk of being contaminated is higher for dentists, through sick patients. A congress with a focus on self-care education for dentists against transmitted infections is underway at Olympic Hotel, Tehran.
