The commissioner of Food and Drugs Administration has warned against ‘’artificial saffron’’ brought into the country from Saudi Arabia. Dr. Rasoul Dinarvand quoted by ISNA said the fake saffron contains artificial colors which are very harmful to health and even carcinogenic. Dinarvand regretted that some restaurants use the fake saffron in their dishes due to its low price. He hoped the new initiative to put nutrition labels on all food products would decrease fraud in the industry.
