Mehrab Theater Hall is hosting the theatrical work ‘Qajari Coffee’, a comedy written by renowned actor, writer and theater director Atila Pesyani.
The title refers to the bizarre ways of murder used by some Qajar royals, in which a suitor or a political opponent they wished to eliminate, was served a cup of coffee containing poison.
In his play, Pesyani has localized Shakespeare’s famous tragedy ‘Hamlet’. The story is set in Iran of Qajar era (1786-1925). Prince Bayram Mirza, the leading character, finds out from the palace chef, coachman and stable boy about his father’s murder by his mother and uncle. To expose their guilt, Mirza arranges a stage play in which a king is killed in the same way as his father.
Directed by Melika Razi, the cast includes Parastesh Pour-Mirza, Qazaleh Alizadeh, Mehran Yari, Omid Rezaei, Taha-Ali Qardashi, Mohammad Shakeri and Mohammad-Ali Nouri, Tiwall.com reported.
The venue located at Vali-e-Asr Street, Imam Khomeini intersection, will host the play through May 10.
