Indian Nostalgic Concert Slated for May

Indian musicians for the first time are to present a ‘Nostalgic Concert’ in Tehran.

Musician Shabbir Kumar, a playback singer (his pre-recorded songs are used in Indian movies), will come to Iran with his son Dilshaad Shabbir Shaikh to perform live at Iranian Conference Hall, affiliated to the Sports and Youth Ministry, according to the Persian website of Honaronline.

Shabbir Kumar, 63, is famous in India for his 1980s and early 90s playback songs. Since 2013, when his son became a composer, they have occasionally performed together.

The duo is known as Karma Band. Their upcoming show, advertised as ‘The Biggest Indian Nostalgia Concert,’ will be held May 8-9 at the venue located off Sheikh Fazlollah Expressway, west of Azadi Stadium. They will perform two concerts each evening at 6:30 and 9:30 pm.

The father and son will be accompanied by an orchestra of Iranian musicians conducted by percussionist Ali Farahani and arranged by Pedram Shahraki.

Dilshaad has had earlier collaboration with Iranian filmmakers. He was the music supervisor of ‘Beyond the Clouds,’ an Indo-Iranian film directed by Majid Majidi and sang two soundtracks in another of Majidi’s films ‘Muhammad: the Messenger of God.’

He was also music director for two joint productions by Iran and India ‘Salaam Mumbai’ and ‘The Devil’s Daughter’ directed by Qorban Mohammadpour.

Tickets for the concerts are available at Tik8.com.
