Nearly 16 bird species which face extinction in Europe have their habitat in Golestan Province. This is due to the unique ecological diversity of this northern region, said Esmaeil Mohajer, head of the provincial Department of Environment (DoE). At present, 30% of animal species and 24% of plant species are found in Golestan; therefore the environment needs greater attention and protection, IRNA quoted him as saying. Golestan, though a small province, is unique as it is blessed with mountains, seas, forests, plains and deserts at the same time.
