New measures have been announced for overseas Iranians eligible for military service. Based on the new rules, eligible men who have spent up to three years abroad can return to the country for a three-month stay, says the deputy head of the Draft Organization quoted by ILNA. Brigadier General Ibrahim Karimi added that based on the earlier laws, people who exited the country before 2003 and have spent two years abroad, can still pay money in exchange for their compulsory National Service. Karimi further said the measures are also applicable to those who have dodged the draft in “illegal ways” like men who have left the country “on bail but have not returned yet.”
