Biobanks Under Development

The Iranian National Biobank system is under development with 10 biobank centers for prisoners and convicts so far completed. Dr. Ahmad Shojaee, head of Legal Medicine, said every single launch of biobank centers costs around $200, ISNA reported. Shojaee added that reporters and journalists are next in priority for having a biobank.  A biobank is a type of biorepository that stores biological samples (usually human) for use in research. Since the late 1990s biobanks have become an important resource in medical research, supporting many types of contemporary research like genomics and personalized medicine.
