The Mashhad Zoo’s move to breed the hybrid species of ‘tigon’ by placing tigers and lions in common cages has been criticized. “This can cause genetic damage and in addition create large size species of tigons. Suitable living conditions for them don’t exist in the zoo, Mehr News Agency quoted Iman Memariyan, wildlife veterinarian as saying. Unfortunately, some of the zoo owners resort to ‘unethical’ measures to earn more fame. Relevant organizations should increase monitoring of the country’s zoos, he added.
