A gas explosion in a guesthouse near the mausoleum of Fatima Massumeh (PBUH) in Qom killed five people and injured 16 on Thursday. The explosion was caused by a pilgrim mishandling a leaking cooking gas canister, ISNA reported. The casualties included four men and one woman. “Eight of the injured are still in hospital and others were discharged after receiving out-patient services,” head of Emergency Medical Services, Pir Hossein Kolivand, said on Friday. The shrine in Qom, 150 km south of Tehran, is the second-most revered spot in Iran after the mausoleum of the Eighth Imam of Shiites, Imam Reza (PBUH) in Mashhad.
