More than 2,000 new schools are needed before the end of the Sixth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2017-22) to cater to the growing student population, Deputy Education Minister Mohammad-Taqi Nazarpour said on Wednesday. “As many as 12.7 million students were registered in schools across the country for this academic year (starts September 23) and the student population is expected to reach 14 million by year 2022,” he was quoted by ISNA as saying. He called on philanthropists to contribute towards the construction of new schools. An estimated 20% of all schools in Iran are built by charities.
