Tehran is expected to experience 30% increase in traffic as soon as schools and universities reopen after the 3-month summer holidays on September 23, Tehran’s police chief, Brigadier Hossein Rahimi, said.

“As a measure to reduce traffic congestion during the first few weeks of schools, all construction projects in the city have been suspended for 25 days from September 16 to October 12,” he said, ISNA reported.

Law enforcement authorities will impose heavy fines on pollutant cars or drivers who do not have the annual vehicle inspection stickers, he added.

Close to 1.1 million students have enrolled in schools across Tehran Province in all grades for the new academic year. According to Rahimi, more than 17,000 school buses will operate in and across the city.
