School Health Check

Health tests have started across the country for 1.2 million first graders who will enter school in the new academic year starting September 23.

The students will be examined for health problems including learning disorders, visual and hearing impairments as well as mental disorders, head of the Health Ministry’s Population, School and Family Health Office, Mohammad Esmaeil Motlaq, said on Saturday.

According to the official, around 90% of children who have already undergone the health tests were found healthy while the rest were diagnosed with physical or mental problems, IRNA quoted him as saying.  

Noting that 30% of children tested last year were overweight, he said the Education Ministry has plans to provide health education to children in the new academic year.
