Students numbering 378,706 passed the nationwide university entrance test for the new academic year (starting September 23), of which 213,844 were women. The results were released Friday night on the website of the National Educational Assessment Organization (Sanjesh Organization).
Of this number, 133,779 applicants chose experimental science majors, while 103,755 applied for technical and mathematics majors, Hossein Tavakoli, an advisor with Sanjesh Organization said, ILNA reported. Human science majors had 119,179 applicants, arts majors 9,279 applicants and 12,714 will study a foreign language. The entrance test, known as Konkur (from the French Concours), is a standardized test used as a yardstick to gain admission to higher education in Iran. The academic future of students is determined based on their score in the exam. A total of 930,208 students, including 548,434 boys and 381,774 girls took the test this year.
