The Iranian Red Crescent society on Tuesday loaded a 100-ton aid shipment for Myanmar Rohingya Muslims on an aircraft, to be dispatched after obtaining approval from customs officials.

The relief package includes food, medicine, and some basic life necessities. The aid was prepared by the IRCS last week and was awaiting shipping authorization from Myanmar, ISNA reported.

The IRCS had initially planned a 40-ton aid package but it later increased the aid to 100 tons, head of IRCS public relations office, Vahid Rahmati said.

Senior officials in Tehran have condemned the massive security operations by the Myanmar army that followed a series of deadly ambushes by Rohingya militants on August 25. The United Nations says more than 300,000 refugees have so far fled to neighboring Bangladesh.
