A 4.7-magnitude earthquake jolted Birjand City in South Khorasan Province early on Wednesday. No fatalities have been reported. According to the Iranian Seismography Center, the quake, which struck at 2:50 am, occurred at a depth of 9 kilometers, ISNA reported. The quake also shook neighboring city of Khusf. According to director general of South Khorasan Crisis Management Center, Abol Hassan Mirjalili, the earthquake resulted in cracks in the walls of some old buildings in Khusf. Four rescue teams were dispatched to cities and villages near the epicenter of the quake to assess possible damages.
