Of the 1.3 million disabled people registered with the State Welfare Organization, so far 45% have received international identity cards and the remaining cards will be issued before the end of the next calendar year in March 2019, SWO deputy for rehabilitation affairs, Hossein Nahvi-Nejad said, IRNA reported.
SWO began the process of issuing international identity cards for disabled people two years ago, when the scheme was implemented as a pilot in Tehran Province. The international cards contain information about each individual’s disabilities and enable them to access certain services and facilities, both in and outside Iran. Exemption from certain taxes, low-interest loans, half-price air tickets, military service exemption, and assistance during domestic and international travel are among the incentives offered to card holders.
