The government has made provisions to continue distribution of free milk in schools in the upcoming academic year (starts September 23), to help improve nutritional intake of students.
Each student will receive 55 quarter-liter packets of milk over a nine-month period. The government plans to supply free milk to 14.5 million students in primary and junior high schools as well as pre-schools and orphanages across the country.
Four trillion rials ($105 million) is needed for implementing the plan, said Hossein Farzaneh, deputy director of development and management office at the Education Ministry.
Annual per capita consumption of milk and dairy products in Iran is less than 70 kilograms as against the global 300 kilograms.
