Four new domestic drugs were introduced on Saturday on the sidelines of a seminar on organic chemistry at Iran University of Science and Technology.

The four drugs include Sofosbuvir, an antiviral drug for control of Hepatitis C, Clopidogrel, an anti-clot drug for brain stroke patients or those suffering a heart disease, Atorvastatin, a lipid-lowering drug, and Nifedipine, a medication used to manage high blood pressure, head of the university, Mohammad-Ali Barkhordari said, IRNA reported.

Local production of generic drugs lowers their cost making them accessible to a larger group of those in need.

The four new drugs will soon be mass produced by domestic pharmaceutical companies, after receiving the ‘Good Manufactory Processes’ certificate from the Health Ministry.

GMP is a system that ensures drugs are produced with consistent quality and in compliance with standards.
