Tehran has the lowest number of mosques per capita, with each of the capital’s residents getting a 15 sq. cm share of mosque space. Chairman of the social committee of Tehran City Council said there are only 2,000 mosques in Tehran and this is while the population of the city is 8.5 million. Abdolmoghim Nasehi quoted by ISNA said based on a bill passed by city council members last year, the construction of 400 mosques was put on the agenda, 80 of which have been built to this day.
