A scheme aimed at expanding dialysis centers has been launched which targets the addition of 3,000 new beds equipped with dialysis machines in five years, according to a deputy health minister.

Some 1,500 dialysis beds are old and need to be replaced. However, to ensure better service for the patients at least 3,000 beds are required.

“Since the government cannot shoulder all the costs alone, the private sector has been asked to help,” Mohammad Aqajani told IRNA.

He said companies are in talks with medical universities to set up dialysis centers and negotiations have resulted in the signing of a few agreements.

The government intends to hand over 80% of dialysis centers to the private sector in the next five years, the official added.
