Distraction Major Cause of Road Accidents

Not paying attention to the road was the cause for 32% of all road crashes in the Iranian month of Tir (June 22-July 21), said Colonel Nader Rahmani, head of Iran’s Traffic Control Information Center.

“Speeding contributed to around 19% of all fatal traffic collisions,” IRNA quoted him, as saying.   According to Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization, during the first three months of the current year, 3,756 people lost their lives in road accidents, of whom 2,964 were men and 792 were women.   About one-third of all road traffic deaths occur among young adults under the age of 30. Road accidents account for the highest years of potential life lost in Iran, which is an estimate of the average years a person would have lived if he/she had not died prematurely.
