    Polluting Industries Warned

The Department of Environment has inspected 5,000 industrial units in Tehran province for pollution since October 2016 and warned 1,500 companies for failing to meet environmental regulations.

The scheme was launched in October with the aim of curbing air and water pollution.

“So far, 30% of industries have received warnings and will be monitored again to ensure the shortcomings have been addressed,” said Nasser Mehrdadi, head of Tehran Province DOE office, IRNA reported.  Failure to heed the warnings will result in prosecution.  Mehrdadi said despite the high cost of inspections ($31,000 per month), the DOE will continue to implement the scheme.
