Sixteen health centers were opened last week in Sistan-Baluchestan Province as a part of joint effort by the Health Ministry and Barekat Foundation.
The two sides have been working together to improve the quality of healthcare in the impoverished province.
“The greatest achievement of the joint effort is the reduction in malaria and thalassemia cases,” Ali Osat Hashemi, Sistan’s governor-general, was quoted by ISNA as saying
After their joint effort started in 2014, there has been an 80% drop in the number of new malaria cases and an 85% decline in the number of thalassemia cases.
Moreover, maternal mortality ratio has decreased by 32%, he added.
Barekat Foundation is dedicated to creating entrepreneurs, building schools and infrastructure in remote and underdeveloped regions. It is affiliated to the Setad, a special office for executing the decrees of Imam Khomeini in helping the poor and needy.
